Gas prices to stay low for the rest of the decade, Government forecasts

“Richard Howard, head of environment and energy at think tank Policy Exchange said: ‘These new figures show that the recent falls in wholesale gas and electricity prices could be here to stay for the next few years. This will benefit consumers, provided that suppliers pass on these savings.’

“But he warned that the lower wholesale electricity prices would increase the subsidies payable to renewable energy generators under the Government’s ‘contract for difference’ scheme, thereby ‘further stretching the available subsidy budget’.”
