Textbook Answer: how teachers can ensure our schools have the resources and rigour they need for the knowledge curriculum

A new, more demanding National Curriculum requires new, more demanding resources – and working teachers have a potentially crucial role in shaping and sharing these new materials. An expert panel of classroom practitioners came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges for involving teachers in the production of better resources for a better curriculum, with a Keynote Address from Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, Minister for School Standards on the value and importance of textbooks in ensuring all young people receive the high-quality education they deserve.

Robert Peal, teacher, author of three textbooks on British history as well as a former teacher-in-residence at the Department for Education; Robert Orme, author and editor of a new series of textbooks on Religious Education, and currently Head of Divinity at the West London Free School; and Emma Lennard, a former Primary teacher and now Primary Curriculum Consultant discussed the role and importance of working teachers in the era of knowledge-based education.
