Events Assistant

Events Assistant

Job Details

Policy Exchange is the UK’s most influential independent think-tank with a strong record of achieving policy impact across a wide range of areas. As Events Assistant, you will have the opportunity to interact with UK policy debate at the highest levels, to include hosting Prime Ministers, Presidents, and other world leaders.

Policy Exchange is looking for a confident, enthusiastic and politically minded person to deliver an exciting and topical rolling programme of events. This entry-level role will require working with a diverse mix of politicians, policymakers, business people and academics as well as liaising with suppliers such as venue staff, AV companies and caterers.

As Events Assistant, you will deliver events ranging from policy roundtables at our very centrally located in-house events space to receptions at other central Westminster venues with 500+ capacity.

To be a strong candidate you would have:

  • Event delivery experience – experience in planning and delivering events, including handling logistics, liaising with venues, researching and writing event briefings, and managing on-the-day operations. Experience in a political, policy, or think tank setting would be an advantage.
  • Excellent project management skills – an ability to juggle multiple events at once, meet tight deadlines, and maintain a high level of organisation and attention to detail.
  • Good software skills – basic Microsoft Excel skills are required in this role to manage guest lists, mailing lists and event budgets. Alongside this, experience using Mailchimp strategically to maximise attendance to in person events, as well as using Zoom to run online webinars, is an advantage.
  • Strong people skills – excellent interpersonal skills to work efficiently within our internal team and with external suppliers, such as venue staff, photographers, AV companies and caterers. Having such skills is also key as you work with the Head of External Affairs to manage sponsor relationships and help to identify new event sponsors.
  • An interest in political issues and public policy.
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude – being proactive and solutions-focused in your approach.
  • A willingness to work out of hours from time-to-time to support the delivery of events – some events will take place in the evenings or require early morning starts. Although this is rare, we’d ask that you’re willing to adapt your schedule when needed.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community. We value diversity and appoint on merit.
