Policy Exchange is looking for an outstanding career professional to join our Economics Unit with an emphasis on macroeconomics. This role would include working with leading economist and commentator Roger Bootle on long-term projects.
The Economics Unit examines key questions in macro and microeconomics, and social policy more broadly. Policy Exchange’s proposals regularly become Government policy and many of our alumni have taken senior roles inside Government.
Job role
- Conducting in-depth research into macroeconomics and public policy
- Presenting your research in coherent, well-argued and detailed reports.
- Writing in other formats, such as opinion articles for high-profile publications, including leading dailies, trade publications and online sources. Policy Exchange’s work has appeared in most mainstream media in the UK, as well as many international titles.
- Helping to organise events hosted at Policy Exchange and the Party Conferences associated with your issue area.
- Presenting your ideas in different formats to a range of audiences including Ministers and MPs, civil servants, journalists, academics, policy experts and your colleagues.
- Actively supporting fundraising activities, particularly around party conference and policy reports.
- Taking an active role in networking with stakeholders in politics, policy development, academia, business and beyond.
The successful applicant will have
- Minimum 1-5 years’ experience in economic analysis and/or statistical analysis.
- A degree and/or extensive experience in a subject related to economics, political economy and/or public policy which included a quantitative component.
- Superb writing and analytical skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and make a persuasive and well-structured argument.
- Experience of statistical modelling, and using statistical and modelling software (such as R or Stata) would be a distinct advantage.
- An interest in British politics, and an understanding of the policy-making process in the United Kingdom.
- The Ability to access research in languages other than English would be a distinct advantage.
- Excellent organisational skills, and an enthusiastic and can-do attitude.
