“US foreign policy under Donald Trump: The scorecard so far” with Professor Walter Russell Mead, Hudson Institute Distinguished Fellow, Wall Street Journal columnist, historian and one of America’s leading writers on foreign policy.
Since Donald Trump became President of the United States, many of the established rules of American foreign policy making have been ripped up. After over a year in office, how can we assess his record so far? What has been the impact of Trump on a range of issues from NATO and transatlantic relations, to the rise of China, stability in the Middle East, the Iranian nuclear deal or the threat from North Korea? Can it be said that he has been successful or lucky, and how sustainable is his unique approach over the course of the rest of his presidential career?
To provide an assessment of US foreign policy under Donald Trump so far, Policy Exchange is delighted to welcome back one of America’s foremost and renowned experts on foreign policy, Professor Walter Russell Mead. Professor Mead is a Distinguished Fellow at the Hudson Institute, the James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and the Humanities at Bard College and columnist for the Wall Street Journal. He is the author of several books: Special Providence: American Foreign Policy and How It Changed the World (2001, winner of the Lionel Gelber Prize and nominated for the 2002 Arthur Ross Book Award); Power, Terror, Peace, and War: America’s Grand Strategy in a World at Risk (2004); and God and Gold: Britain, America, and the Making of the Modern World (2008).
