About this Event

Policy Exchange invites you to

a keynote address by

Dr Raghib Ali
Clinical Epidemiologist, University of Cambridge,
Advisor to the Race Disparity Unit on Covid and Health

Regional health inequality has long been a concern of governments. The Levelling Up White Paper includes as one of its 12 missions the ambitious goal of narrowing the gap between the places where Healthy Life Expectancy (HLE) is highest and lowest by 2030 and raising overall HLE by 5 years by 2035. What are the roots of different health outcomes? And what needs to happen to meet these ambitious targets.

This is the fourth in the Policy Exchange lecture series on Levelling Up. Levelling Up Health and Longevity follows Professor Richard Jones’s keynote speech, ‘Can we Level up Research and Innovation?’ , leading economist Paul Ormerod’s talk on levelling up in one town (Rochdale, where he chairs the Rochdale Development Agency) and Head of the Government’s Levelling Up Taskforce Andy Haldane’s bird’s eye inaugural talk in the summer.

Future talks in the series will include HM Chief Inspector of Schools Amanda Spielman on schools and levelling up.
