S.M.A.R.T. Density: Building Dense, Building Beautiful, calls for a fresh new approach to achieving high density that draws inspiration from mid-rises and mansion blocks rather than high-rises and tower blocks. The S.M.A.R.T. Density approach also prioritises other key urban design tenets such as streets, public spaces, aesthetics, urban and economic activity, residents, regulations and transport. The intention is to prove that density can be desirable not disruptive and in so doing, demonstrate that it can help solve the housing crisis by ensuring that significantly increased housing supply is concentrated in modern versions of some of the Britain’s most popular and successful urban neighbourhoods.
