Rebranding the Government’s highly controversial Islamophobia definition into one of “anti-Muslim hostility” makes it even wider and more dangerous, a new Policy Exchange report finds.
Written by Sir John Jenkins KCMG LVO, Policy Exchange Senior Fellow who co-wrote the last government’s seminal review of the Muslim Brotherhood, and Policy Exchange Senior Fellow Andrew Gilligan, the report says the dictionary definition of “hostility” includes “not agreeing” with something or being “opposed” to it.
In an endorsement of the report, Baroness Falkner, chair until last month of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, says the proposed definition is “dangerous and divisive” and “even worse than anticipated. That it will become a free speech and thought control problem is immediately evident. If there is one policy that cries out for another Government U-turn, it is this.”
