Policy Exchange was delighted to host an event today with the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Julie Bishop. She testified to the strength of the relationship between Australia and the UK ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth summit in April.
She further discussed the recently published Australian foreign policy white paper and stressed the importance of protecting and bolstering the “international rules-based order” as the basis of global peace and prosperity. The Foreign Minister also said she embraced the concept of Global Britain, stressing the importance of the UK’s international role as a member of the UN Security Council.
Following the event, the Foreign Minister tweeted that it was great to attend Policy Exchange and that “an outward looking Australia is essential to future security and prosperity”.
Baroness Jenkin, who attended the event, described the lunch as “fascinating” and wrote that the Foreign Minister “was very clear and talked great common sense”.
