Sir Stephen Watson QPM, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, spoke at Policy Exchange on the fight against crime and disorder. He advocated scrapping Non-Crime Hate Incidents (as previously recommended by
Policy Exchange); criticised elements of the Human Rights Act which prevent the deportation of foreign offenders due to claims of a ‘right to a family life’; expressed clear support for stop and search; and criticised the existing ‘accountability’ regime which sees frontline police officers risking prosecution when confronting violent criminals.
