Policy Exchange at the Party Conferences 2017

March 17, 2017

Spring has only just sprung, but it is at this time of year that we start to turn our attention to the party conference season in Autumn – Policy Exchange’s 16th party conference season!

With the General Election, the Brexit referendum and a new Prime Minister, the last two years have been a turbulent time in politics, resulting in some fascinating party conferences.

Policy Exchange continues to hold a packed programme of fringe events at the Conservative and Labour party conferences. In 2015 and 2016 we were delighted to host high profile speakers including the Rt. Hon. Philip Hammond MP, Rt. Hon. Amber Rudd MP, Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson MP, Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Truss MP, Rt. Hon. Greg Clark MP, Rt. Hon. John Hayes MP, Rt. Hon. Matt Hancock MP, Baroness Neville-Rolfe DBE CMG, Jesse Norman MP, Therese Coffey MP, Rt. Hon. the Lord Willetts, Rt. Hon. Lord Maude of Horsham, Viscount Matt Ridley, Rt. Hon. Nicky Morgan MP, Nick Boles MP, Ed Vaizey MP, George Freeman MP, Jonathan Reynolds MP, Chi Onwurah MP, Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, Brandon Lewis MP, Seema Malhotra MP, and Angela Eagle MP.

We also welcomed many prominent journalists and commentators to our fringes including Vicky Pryce, Will Hutton (Guardian), Philip Collins (The Times), Paul Goodman (Conservative Home), James Quinn (Telegraph), Andrew Ward (FT), Richard Adams (Guardian) and Dan Jones (The Sun). Attracting such senior figures meant that all of our events were extremely well attended.

2017 looks set to be another year of radical political change – with Article 50 triggering Brexit, the UK re-invigorating the “special relationship” with Trump, the Government’s Industrial Strategy beginning to emerge, and significant changes being made to housing and education policies amongst others.

Policy Exchange will be attending the Conservative and Labour conferences in Manchester and Brighton respectively, with a packed programme of fringe events exploring the most pressing policy questions facing the Government.
