Expensive night-time black cab fares need to be slashed if drivers are to have any chance of fighting back against the threat from Uber, a major new study claims today.
The “meter anxiety” felt by passengers on longer cab journeys and the annual “inflation busting” rise in taxi tariffs must also addressed to stop trade hemorrhaging from one of London’s best loved symbols, it urges.
But the report, from the Capital City Foundation think-tank, part of Policy Exchange, goes on to urge far tighter regulation of its US owned online rival to tackle what it claims is the app-based service’s high accident rate and inadequate vetting of drivers…
