“Households could see their bills cut if the ‘very complicated’ and costly landscape of administration and regulation in the energy sector is simplified and scaled back, new research suggests.
“While conceding there is ‘little transparency’ on exactly where money is being spent, Policy Exchange estimates the annual cost of administration in the energy sector to be in excess of £600million a year.
“Thirty separate bodies, including the National Grid, Ofgem and the Department of Energy and Climate Change, currently deliver a range of functions in the sector.”
